Dishwasher Extra Silverware Rack

Crowded silverware often does not get clean. I thought about ordering extra baskets, then I gave this a try and it worked great.

It sure beat emptying the machine and finding spoons stuck together and covered with food.

Materials

You will need:

1 aluminum grill topper

pliers

wire cutters

gloves (optional)

You can cut your own mesh, but it must be non rusting metal.

Shape the Rack

Bend the edges of the mesh up slightly so that silverware won't slide off. A general box shape is good for this. Gloves will protect your hands from stray wires.

Fitting Rack in Place

Place the grill on the top rack of the dishwasher, and gently push it down over the washer's plastic coated wires. You may have to cut the grill in places to get it to slide down--the gloves should protect your fingers from snipped wire. Once it's snug on the rack adjust the edges of your grill so silverware won't slip over. Bend or cut sharp wire edges.

Add Dishes

This rack does not interfere with water flow enough to compromise cleaning, and shallow cups and glasses can be placed on top of the silverware. It is great with large utensils. Remember to turn spoons with the bowls down so water will drain.
