Dish Rags/Coaster Rags Demo
I am going to be showing how to knit a Dish Rag, very, very simple, Easy and fun although time consuming. Because of how long it takes to knit a dish rag without doing it in one run I will instead show how to make a smaller version of a dishrag called a coaster rag that will be a lot easier for people to do and will not take as much time.
Supplies
- Knitting needles
- Scissors
- Sugar'n Cream yarn
- Time
To Begin
Right now you only need your yarn and your knitting needles, and you need to get a 4 to 5 inch tail and make a slip knot and put it on one of your needles and pull it tight. Then we are going to add three more loops onto your needle. (I don't know how to explain this and I can't get a video on here everything is not working in that aspect) I suggest looking up a YouTube video because all I can do is pictures and describing.
Start
After you have added the three loops you then stick your needle in between your needle and the yarn and grab the yarn on the other side with the needle you first stuck through and then you pull that yarn through and that is your first loop of the next line. You knit two lines going in with your needle, then around to grab the yarn and then back through with the yarn.
Building On
To start building your little coaster you need to knit two loops really fast and then before you do another loop wrap the string leading to your yarn ball once around your needle (Not fully around) and then continue on normally. You need to do this until you have15 loops or more depending on how big you want your coaster. If you make a dish rag then you need 35 loops or more for a good size.
Start Finishing You Coaster/rag
When you want to finish your coaster or rag to decreased your loops, you (instead of knitting one loop at a time) knit two loops together twice and then add a loop back like your were doing when you first started. And you go on doing that until the very end when you have only four loops left. When you get to that point, you finish off the coaster or rag by knitting one loop and then another. When you do that there should be two loops on each needle then on the needle you just put loops on you take the back loop and pass it over the front one. Leaving you with only one loop on that needle. Then you knit another loop over on to the one that just was depleted of one and repeat the process, until only one loop is remaining. When there is one loop left, cut the line from the ball of yarn to the coaster or rag and tie it off. Then tie off the tail and cut of the extra, and your done!!
