Disc Sander Disc Puller
When needing to fix my Durex Industrial disc/belt sander combo, I had trouble getting the disc off. I had removed the set screw, but the disk was stuck on the shaft. The safety guard couldn't be removed until the disc was removed, meaning I had no access to lever the disc off. So this small, cheap project took 10 minutes to make and saved me hours of fighting with the sander.
Supplies
1/4-20 nut
1/4-20 bolt
2 small headed screws
scrap of hardwood
Screw the screws into the hardwood scap. Leave them proud of the scrap by a bit more than the thickness of the disc. Make sure they are the diameter of the disc apart (inside to inside). Grind or file the outside of the screws to make them fit between the safety guard and disc better. In the middle, chisel out a hexagonal hole for the nut, and drill out the center just big enough for the bolt. Epoxy the nut in place carefully.
To use, squeeze first one, then the other, screw between the guard and disc. Position so the nut is over the shaft. Slowly turn the nut until the disc pops off.
