Disassembling Astro C40 TR Controller's Joystick for Replacing or Cleaning Purposes
In this instructional guide, I replaced and cleaned the Astro C40 TR joystick module because its joysticks don’t have the best quality. They start drifting probably after one year of use.
Supplies
The tools and materials needed for this task are the following:
Tools:
- A T6 screwdriver
- A H.20 Hexagonal Screwdriver
- WD-40 Spray Cleaner (in case of cleaning the module)
Materials:
- A new Astro C40 TR joystick module
- Astro C40 TR Controller
Remove the Face Cover of the Joystick
A. Use a H.20 Hexagonal screwdriver to loosen the four screws (two on each side).
B. Take off the face cover Be careful: Do not to lose the screws
Take Out the Joystick From the Controller
Take out the joystick from the controller.
Disassemble the Joystick
A. Pull the thumbstick off the joystick.
B. Use a T6 screwdriver to unscrew the two screws at the bottom. Be careful: Do not lose the two screws
C. Remove the joystick's inner and outer cover.
Clean the Joystick Module
Note: This is optional if you have a new stick module
A. Use a WD-40 Spray Cleaner to spray the joystick module. Be careful: Do not spray too much it may ruin your joystick module.
B. Spread the fluid by moving the stick left and right to eliminate any dust inside.
Reassemble the Joystick Module
A. Put the inner and outer covers in the new joystick module and make sure the red lines are aligned.
B. Use a T6 screwdriver to screw the joystick module to the outer cover.
C. Squeeze the thumbstick in the module until you hear a clicking sound.
Put the Joystick Back in the Controller
Put the joystick back in the controller and make sure the red lines are aligned.
Put the Face Cover Back On
A. Put the face cover on.
B. Use a H.20 Hexagonal screwdriver to tighten the four screws (two on each side).
