Disassemble of Noritsu LS-600 to Replace/clean Rollers.

I cleaned up the rollers yesterday on my friend’s film scanner (Noritsu LS-600). I took a few pictures with important steps marked and did my best to document the process.
If you decide to do this, you are on your own and fully responsible for the outcome. If you don’t know what you’re doing, don’t do it.
Make sure you have the proper tools (iFixit screwdriver FTW), alcohol, cleaning cloths, etc.—and lots of patience. Again: if you don’t know what you’re doing, don’t do it.
I added remarks to the pictures—read them carefully before doing anything. Take notes and keep everything organized!
Before you proceed:
- Shut down and perform a check in EZ Controller so the scanning head moves all the way to the right (you can also move it manually by turning the cog wheels inside).
- Disconnect all cables.
Supplies

I used an iFixit toolkit, an Allen key set, isopropyl alcohol, and paper towels to clean.
Remove Covers

Shut down and run a check in EZ Controller so the scanning head moves all the way to the right (you can also move it manually by turning the cog wheels inside).
- Disconnect all cables.
- Remove the covers.
- Lift the left cover off the hinges.
- Remove all screws holding the covers and the front beam.
- Same on the other side.
- The two screws holding the scanning head shield are visible inside the shield:
- Left screw
- Right screw
- Remove the magnet sensor.
Removing the Scanning Tray

- Uncovered scanning head with tray
- Remove the screws and the securing screw from the film drum.
- Another one.
- Same.
- Remove the screw inside the scanning path (use a small Allen key or hex bit).
- Second one.
- One screw is for the APS film path.
- Carefully! Disconnect the cables in front — each pair has the same number. Do not pull on the cable with force.
- Remove the ground cable.
- Carefully! Disconnect the cables on the left — each pair has the same number. Again, do not pull with force.
- Open the back of the scanner.
- Carefully! Disconnect the flat ribbon cable (pull gently).
- Disconnect the two cables in the back.
- Carefully! Disconnect the cable (connector and cable have the same number).
- Remove the grounding cable and pull the cables out.
Remove the scanning tray.
Disassembly of Scanning Tray and Cleaning of the Rollers, Bottom Part

- This is the light — don’t scratch it. Carefully clean it. It can also be removed from the bottom of the scanner if needed. In the video, it shows how the cleaning works. Dirt might affect the calibration of the scanner.
- Remove the drum where the film is stored at the back of the tray.
- Two screws are holding it.
- On the bottom of the tray, remove the screws holding the axles. They have bearings on the sides and a small shim!
- There are simple black tension rollers under the belt. They are not held by anything, so they will fall out.
- Another view.
- Remove the rollers, soak them with alcohol, and clean them with paper towels soaked in alcohol. If you have replacement rubber rollers, replace them.

Removing the Top Part of Scanning Tray

- Hinge holding the top cover.
- Shim, spring, shim.
- Another view.
- Another view.
- Second hinge, without shims.
- Loosen the screws holding the board and cables.
- Tensioner:
- Mark how it was tightened and Loosen the tensioner.Remove the belt.
- Loosen the screws holding the axle.
- Remove the belt and axle.
- Remove the APS film axle.
Top Part of Scanning Tray

- Bottom part of the scanning tray: 35mm film path on the left, APS on the right.
- Top part: APS film path on the left, 35mm on the right.
- Remove the cover of the top part.
- It is held in place at two points.
- The top part cover presses down on the film, pushing it toward the bottom rollers. Mark how the screws are tightened! If they are too tight, the film won’t feed; if too loose, the film won’t be picked up.
- Remove each roller carefully — there are springs pushing each axle down.
- Remove the screws holding the APS rollers.
Reassembly is oposite process :)
