i was thinking instead of my phone just lying on my desk / PC Station ,I can make a stand to prop my phone up , so away i went to the garage and in less than 10 minutes i came back with an  A frame style stand pretty basic i thought and easy , a week went by testing the stand of its flaws and how i can make it better , and christmas was a week away , i also thought i can make each of my 3x sisters one as well  , so cutting away  and using a torch (map gas)   for the bending/ shaping  Dremel for grinding and cutting , wet sanded the surface for a dull smooth finish  glued down  some toolbox liner  to the bottom of stand to keep from slipping on the desk and to keep the phone on the  stand  which all worked out great

Start Cutting

cutting from the 24" x 24"  sheet of ABS  on a mini band saw

Sand Away !

1292892260749.jpg
rounded all the edges  ,  12" x 3" planer sandpaper (self adhesive)  on the bench to keep a long sanding stroke

Rounded Edges

Torch Time

using the torch on a low flame  , gently moving back and forth .

Front Foot of the Stand

1292893177340.jpg
to heat about an inch from the edge, when it starts to warp place the edge on the bench and hold it down till it hardens ,(i had one of those 6" cage fans on the bench to help with the cooling

Second Bend

1292893386518.jpg
on the smooth side of the ABS i lightly sanded down , was too glossy ,............Here i made some marks to direct the flame for the next bend .

Keeping the Frame Straight

1292893598070.jpg
roughly about 3 3/4 inches from bend to bend , lying on its side to cool and holding the desired angle , and also keep the frame edges true  .

Cutting Off Excess

1292893952220.jpg
1292893826263.jpg
1292894177895.jpg
here i cut off the excess  i use a  rt angle pick or Razor knife to score the ABS  and a ruler or something that has a true squared edge ,   just enough to snap it off  with a nice straight edge

Last Bend

1292894329172.jpg
1292894339308.jpg
here i set flat on the bench for its standing position ,

Flush With Flat Surface

1292894339308.jpg
1292897380351.jpg
and on its side to make sure the sides were flush with the flat surface  , and let it cool off in the fan

1292897380351.jpg
instead of leaving a big flat surface on the back  i cut out a hole with the dremel , and filed down the edges  , i didnt like the way the textured surface looked so i sanded down the textured surface

Help From the Rain

1292898062903.jpg
i wet sanded the back  to take out the sanding swirls , since it was raining ,and i had free water ,lol

Tool Box Liner

measuring  to cut the liner

Adding the Adhesive

1292898668051.jpg
1292898640403.jpg
i used the rubber glue to hold down the liner , this is strong stuff , much like the gorilla glue but stronger and cost more , you can also use spray adhesive , but you'll probably be applying it again in a few months

Front Face W/liner
