Desk Organizer With a Secret!
Being in the process of shifting and settling...I gave up the idea of trying for the secret compartments..! But came along organizing contest...well...really... I need to organize few things :D !(And I was always fascinated by my grandfather's iron locker which had a secret drawer!!)
.I made a simple pens, bills etc holder with a small drawer...yes.. I know that we can buy many of these kinds but they don't have my secret space which will be very useful for spare keys, small souvenirs...well hidden but easy access!! So lets make it.
Needed :
wooden pieces
multibond
jigsaw
drill (optional)
nails (optional)
measuring and calculating patience.

Cuts:
Any type of wood can be used... I had teak, so I am using it!(thickness of 1/2")
A - 9" x 7" (one piece for the base)
B - 7" x 6" (one)
C - 6 1/2" x 6" (one)
D - 9" x 2" (two)
E - 4 1/2" x 3" (two)
F - 7" x 3" (one)
G - 6" x 2 1/2" (two)
E - 2 1/2" x 2" (one)
Plywood:
for drawer(1/4" thickness),
a- 6" x 5 3/4" (one- base)
b- 6" x 1 1/ 2" (one)
c- 5 3/4" x 1 1/2" (two)
for secret compartment (3/8" thickness)
d- 6" x 2" (one )
e- 2" x 1/2" (two)

Easily, by looking at the pictures you will be able to get the idea how to make it...to simplify the matter I have used the letters to identify the correct pieces..!
I just glued the pieces in proper places (a little drilling and nailing can be done depending on preferences!!). The piece 'A' was the base. 'C' was used as back of the stand. 'D' pieces were used in both sides. 'B' was the top layer of drawer area (pictures shows it clearly), leaving a gap between 'B' and 'C' which creates ample of space for a secret compartment (all glued!)! To get the idea you can keep the 'E' pieces on top of 'D's on both sides between 'B' and 'C' (better not glue them now for the convenience of making other parts!).
To make the pen stand, glued the 'G's using one as a base and the other as a partition ( and 'H' was glued in the middle to divide that portion for pens and bills) and was not glued to the main set because it will act as the lid concealing the secret space !
On the base ('A') ,the length of the 'B' was kept as a drawer area and the plywood piece 'd' was glued to separate the drawer n the secret space (so even removing the drawer will not reveal the secret!!). As shown in the pics on both 'D' walls ,the 'e' pieces were glued at the same level as 'd', to give the support to hold the lid of the compartment / the pen holder !!
Now it is the time to glue the 'E's in their places! By whole it will look as though all the parts were glued tightly... but by pulling up the middle of the pen holder alone will reveal the secret!

To make the drawer , 'F' was used as front! The plywood piece 'a' was the base, sides were 'c's and the back side was 'b'. before joining it to the 'F' , I nailed the other sides together! the nailed plywood piece was positioned appropriately on the inner side of the 'F' piece...the drawer was made!! This tiny drawer is ideal for wallets, card holders, keys, bracelets, etc. I stained the desk organizer with teak color.
I am happy that my table is much more organized!! Thank you for reading this :) !
