Desk Pets Made Out of Shells

Have you ever wondered what to do with all of the shells that you have leftover from the beach? If you have, you should make these little desk pets. They are nice for decorating your desk and they also work as paperweights! I hope you like them!

Materials

Making the Body

It depends on the animal, but for most, the body will be a round shape. To make this, glue two clamshells that are equal in size so that the flat edges are together. If that is not the shape of the animal that you want, put other types of shells together to form the body.

Making the Legs and Arms

For the legs, I like to use corkscrew type shells. Feel free to try other types. Look at the way the joints of the animal are put together and try to imitate that with the shells. Some times it looks better if you leave off the feet (in the case of the turtle) and sometimes it looks better if you give it feet (the frog), you decide. To make the legs that are made of more than one piece, glue the pieces if the leg together, then glue the whole thing to the body.

Making the Animal Level

Your animal is probably wobbly at this point. To fix this, find a shell that will fit under the body of your animal and glue it so that it is holding the animal on top of it, but not too visible from the angle that you will be looking at it.

Enjoy!

Now that you have finished making your shell desk animal, put it in a spot that will allow it to be viewed regularly and enjoy it!
