Desk Organizer (for Cardboard)

IMG_0681.jpg

I made some wood dividers for the desks in Dr. White's classroom. Dr. White has a lot of cardboard that becomes piled up and is hard to organize, so I made these dividers to help solve the problem. All the different sizes of cardboard will be placed between the dividers so that they are easily accessible.

Supplies

Supplies:

  • 4 custom brackets
  • Screws
  • Plywood
  • 3-D printer

Creating a Cardboard Prototype

First I created a prototype out of cardboard. I was able to get the dimensions that I wanted to use for the final product.

Next I created a wooden prototype just to make sure that the measurements were perfect, and they were!

Cutting the Plywood

Next, I cut the plywood to the correct dimensions using a saw.

Creating the Brackets in Tinkercad

To create the brackets, I used Tinkercad. I created a 3-D T-shape with enough space to slip the wood into and a hole to screw it into the desk. Here is an image of my custom brackets on Tinkercad.

Printing the Brackets

Then, I sent the file of my design to Dr. White as an STL file and it was printed using a 3-D printer. Here is an image of the custom brackets that I was able to create.

Securing the Plywood to the Desk

Finally, I secured the plywood to the underside of the desk with the brackets I had designed. I used a drill and nails to secure the brackets to the desk. Then I slid the wood into the brackets.
