Desk Lamp Smoke Extractor
Everyone that does soldering in electronics must have a smoke extractor, a simple search online will give you different models but i like the idea to make my own smoke extractor.
The idea for my extractor is to have the possibility to move around my desk depending on the angle of the pcb board my extractor as to adapt.
Using materials materials laying around i will make this simple project.

Gather the Material
You will need for this project:
- Power supply with 12V 500mA
- 12v 8cm fan out of a old pc
- Filter holder for fan 8cm
- Peace of acrylic
- Switch
- Power connector
- Wire
- Desk lamp
Get Started
Mark the size of the fan on a peace of acrylic, then i use a utility knife to score the acrylic so i can break apart against a table top.
With this done i use a toaster to heat the acrylic and shape the angles that i want and form the base like the shape of the desk lamp shade.
With drill i made some holes so the air can run true and extract the fumes and a place to put the switch.
I run the power wire along the struts of the desk lamp secure with zip ties.
Then a glue on the desk lamp base my power connector to plug to the power supply.
At this time i can place the filter holder on the fan, the best solution of filter is active carbon air filter.
Final Thoughts
I´m really happy with the final product, this helps not having the fan on top of my desk having more space to work on.
The desk lamp with the multi angles that can produce it helps put the fan in the ideal place.
Now my smoke extractor can keep up with my multi angle vice.
