This is a desk key lamp inspired by Elgato Key Lamp but with the budget of a hobbyist. Powered by a simple LED stripe with main components are 3D printed and the rest of the parts easily sourced from your local hardware store - this is a budget friendly spin on a lamp to be used to streaming or online calls.

Parts for 3D printing can be found here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4974945

I printed with white PLA, 0.2 mm height for all of the parts, 3 perimeters, 20-30% infill

All of the parts are in 1 piece, except knob - 3 pieces, cable management - 2 pieces each size

Assembly of the Lamp

A low cost 3D printed Elgato Key Light that works

This is very straight forward:

  1. Cut the aluminium bars to size. I decided to cut them 32 cm long. This would mean it can be 60 cm high, which is more than enough for most of the situations
  2. Cut the M5 bolts to size. I took measurements while dry assembling the lamp.
  3. Press fit M5 nuts and bolts into the knobs
  4. Press fit M5 nut into the clamp part
  5. Gluing:
    1. lamp_holder to the lamp_head_lid
    2. height_adjustment_squeezed to the Aluminium d15mm bar
    3. hub_lamp_to_tube to adapter_tube_to_lamp_head
  6. d15 mm aluminium bar is pressed in into the clamp, no gluing required
  7. adapter_tube_to_lamp_head is pressed into the d12 aluminium bar with no glue, to allow rotation of the head of the lamp
  8. Soldering the switch and LED strip - it is basic, but I can't give any advice, except being patient with your small cables and solder iron. I am still learning.
