Design & Make Your Own Card Holder Using a 3d Configurator

Hello!

I'm currently working on my personal portfolio, so i think it would be nice to combine 2 of my hobbies (Leathercrafting + CGI). and the Covid lockdown was the perfect excuse to take some time and work on it.

The library starts with a simple Card holder.

About the 3D configurator

• Is a web based interactive viewer.
• You can modify the design, colors, leather type, thread edges, etc. (which updates in real time).
• It may require some graphic memory, so if it slow just try to make your browser window smaller, that way the resolution will be lower.
• The mobile version need some improvements. (will work on it)

About the Card holder.

• Holds 6 Credit cards (3 each pocket)
• Length:3", Height: 3 7/8"

Materials:

• Recommended: 2 to 3 Oz leather (0.9 to 1.2mm).
• Thread (used in video tiger thread 0.8mm)
• Leather glue
• Gum tragacanth or tokonole to burnish edges.
• Card stock

Tools

• Utility Knife
• glue spreader (small brush can be used instead)
• sandpaper 300+ grit
• a pair of needles.
• small piece of canvas to burnish edges (you can use an edge slicker instead)
• Leather chisel (used here 4 mm)
• 3/4" hole punch (for the Ob-round slot)
• or 1/8 or bigger hole punch (for the squared slot)
• steel ruler
• leather compass

• cutting mat

Optional

• Edge paint.
• Edge creaser.
• Stitching pony
• Leather awl

In the left toolbar you will find styles, colors, leather types and even custom stamping.

After you finish your wallet, there is a button to save it as an image. so you can compare it with another variation you may like.

Use tick card stock to print the pattern, First make sure the dimensions of the test page are correct.

Cut the template and trace the pieces you are going to use.

Use the 3/4" hole punch to create 2 holes as the template shows, then join them.

You will need 4 pieces: 2 middle panels and the card slots.

Apply glue to the flesh side of both middle panels, wait the glue to dry a bit and then join the pieces.

Using your knife, scratch the grain side of your middle panels and apply glue.

Use the Leather compass to mark the stitching lines, i use a distance of 3mm or 1/8".

Using your chisel and mallet, mark the stitching holes (or punch through the leather).

For this card holder you will need 50" of thread (1.20 m)

There are different methods of stitching, some of them doesn't require a stitching pony.
