We have a lovely cooking apple tree in the garden which usually graces us with bagfuls of cooking apples every year. This year we only got 7 so I thought I would do something different with them. I often use cinnamon, nutmeg or cloves in stewed apple and decided to try garam masala instead for a more rounded, warm and rich flavour. Here is my stewed apple recipe; I served it on it's own but it goes well with vanilla ice-cream or yoghurt.
I used 3 large and 4 small apples which made 7 large servings. 100g sugar made it slightly tart. If you like it quite sweet you could try adding an extra couple of spoonfuls and tasting it before adding more. Remember; once you put it, you can't take it out!
Preparation time - 10 minutes
Cooking time - 25 minutes
Serves 6-8
Supplies
6-8 medium apples
1/2 tsp garam masala
1/2 tsp butter
100g sugar
Peel and Chop the Apples

Put half an inch of water in a medium pan with a fitted lid and put it on to boil. Peel the apples, core them and chop into pieces.

Cook on a low-to-medium heat, stirring occasionally to separate the cooked apple and check it isn't burning. When there are no pale lumps of apple left it is cooked. Takes 20-25 mins.
Serve!

Spoon into your favourite bowls and sprinkle a small amount of garam masala over the surface. Serve on it's own, with vanilla ice cream or yoghurt. Becca and the kids loved it.
