The Filling!
To start the filling we are going to need these ingredients:
- 3 apples peeled and sliced**
- 1 1/2 + 1/3 cups water (divided)
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons butter
Directions:
In a large pot combine 1 1/2 cups water, sugar, and cinnamon. Heat over medium heat until simmering.(Pic #2)
Add in the apples and cook until soft- about 5 minutes- stirring frequently. (Pics #3-4)
While the apples are cooking, in a small bowl add 1/3 cup water and cornstarch and stir until there are no lumps. (Pics #5-7)
When the apples are soft, slowly add in the cornstarch mixture and whisk to combine.(Pic #8)
Reduce heat to a simmer and cook stirring often until you can see the bottom of the pot when you stir( we want the filling to be thick so it is less likely to ooze out of the pies!) (Pics #9-10)
Add in the butter and stir until melted.(Pic #11)
Pour into a bowl and set aside for later! (Pic #12)
** I used gala and pink lady apples, while any apple will work, my personal favorite is Granny Smith😄
If anyone knows how to get apple cores out on the first try let me know!!😊 It takes me 2-3 tries😆

Making the Pies
And now making the pies!!
Directions:
Heat up your oil over medium heat.(Pic #1)
Remove the dough from the fridge and roll out to about 1/8-1/4” thick ( you want it to be thick enough to stay together but not so thick it gets gummy) (Pics #2-5)
Cut into circles. I used a lid from a container.(Pics #6-7)
**Optional ** I wanted my circles to be bigger so I rolled them out a little more. (Pics #8-9)
Add a heaping tablespoon of your filling to the middle of your circle.(Pics #10-11)
Fold in half over the filling.(Pic #12)
Gently press along the edge with your fingers. (Pic #13)
Use a fork to firmly press together. (Pics #14-15)
Flip over ^Carefully^ and press again with the fork.(Pic #16)
Gently place in the oil and fry for about 1 minute on each side- just long enough to cook the dough and be golden!! (Pics #17-20)
Let cool a little on a rack and then enjoy!! (Pic #21)
They are absolutely amazing with ice cream!!!😋
** if you have some filling left over, it’s also amazing with ice cream!!;) **
