Decorative Chain Grommet

This grommet is a sequence of ↑ and ↓ overhand knots.
I used 6' of 1/4" cotton sash cord for the grommet shown. It its tied around a 1" diameter core.
There is about 1' of cord to be trimmed.
To Start

Bring working end (WE) under the standing end forming a bight.
Step 2: Tie the First ↑ Overhand Knot

Bring WE down across the bight.

Bring WE down across the same bight going under, over, under.
Notice that the two bights of the overhand knot are on the top.
Step 4: Tie the First ↓ Overhand Knot

Bring WE up across the bight just formed.

Bring WE up across the same bight going under, over, under.
Notice that the two bights of the overhand knot are on the bottom.

Repeat step 2.

Repeat step 3 completing another ↑ overhand knot.

Repeat step 4.

Repeat step 5 completing another ↓ overhand knot.
Continue in this manner until you have reached the desired length.
Note: you must end with a ↑ overhand knot
Connecting the Ends

I am showing this process using a cord of a contrasting color.
Bring the two ends close together.

Fold the old standing end up and bring the last bight tied over the first bight.

Bring the new WE down going. over, under (red dot), over.
The knot is complete

Now begins the doubling process.
Take either end and follow its neighboring strand around the knot

Tighten the grommet against whatever you are using and trim the ends.
OR
If you use this grommet as a bracelet :
On the inside of the grommet tie each end to its neighboring strand using a constrictor knot.
