Decorating a Masterpeice

Do you want your cake to taste good and look even better from the outside? Follow along to see how to make your cake look better from the outside.

step 1.jpg

First you will need to make sure you have all your cake layers ready. It does not matter how many, I used three! From there you want to set your first piece of cake down on your turning board and add about 1/3 cup of icing on top.

step 2.jpg

After you have your icing down, now you want to spread it everywhere on the top. Make sure to spread it evenly or else it will not make your cake stand up right. I used a icing knife to spread, but you can use anything!

step 3.jpg

Once your icing is on top and spread, add your next cake layer. Make sure it is evenly on the bottom piece of cake. Then do the same thing and spread your icing all over the second layer.

step 4.jpg

Then you need to add your third/last layer to the top. Spread your icing all over the top again.

step 5.jpg

Once you have all your layers down with icing on the top, you need to start with the sides. Take a ton of icing and spread all over the side with your knife. Don't worry about how it looks, it just needs to have a thin layer of icing all over. Once you have done that put it in the fridge for about one hour. This helps the icing stay down and makes it easier to decorate.

step 6.jpg

After a hour in the fridge, take it out and add icing all over the cake again. The top and sides. More is better to get a smooth layer. Can adding icing and smoothing it out till you like the way it looks.

step 7.jpg

Once you have the cake covered as you like it, get more icing and color it whatever you decide too. I chose blue as you can see. Then put it in the microwave until its not as thick. Microwave for about 45 seconds, till syrup consistency.

step 8.jpg

Once it is at that consistency, put it in piping bag with a small circle tip. If you do not have one, put it in a zip log bag and cut a small tip off it.

step 9.jpg

Now take the bag and gently put the tip against the edge of the cake. Press down with little pressure and then move over and add a different amount of pressure. This will give the drip look. Do that all around the cake.

Lastly, put the normal icing in a piping bag (color it whatever you would like!) with a star tip and pipe where you want. Push down and then quickly pull up to give the dollop effect.

Now you have a beautiful looking cake!
