Lets first try to make the basic construction of homopolar motor

  1. Put the battery vertically on top of the magnet.
  2. Rub the copper wire from ends and middle portion to remove coating of wire so that it can easily conduct.
  3. Bend the wire to make M shape and the ends of wire as shown in image.
  4. Balance the piece of wire on the tip of the battery. Make sure the bottom of the wire touches the side of the magnet.

I have made an Indian dancing girl. You can make anything of your wish. It can be a ballerina, monster, robot etc

First i draw and colored the upper part of the body that includes face, hands and chest. If you draw more parts then it will be difficult to balance on wire, it may tilt so try to use less amount of paper.

I made drawing on both sides of paper- front and back

I cut the body and sticked the back part on the top of M shape wire that I earlier made.

I folded one piece of paper to make the lower part of the body.

Insert and stick the skirt to the middle of M shape wire as shown in images.

Now our dancing girl ready to rotate on homopolar motor.

How a Homopolar Motor Works?

It is a device that transforms electrical energy to mechanical energy.

The magnets have magnetic fields around them. When the battery is connected to the wire and the circuit gets completed through it then the current starts flowing in the wire. This creates a magnetic field around wire. This magnetic field and the magnetic field of magnets together create a torque that rotates the wire according to Lorentz force.
