DR-5X: The Unsung Hero of Coruscant

In the sprawling metropolis of Coruscant, where the sky is filled with the hustle and bustle of speeders and the ground level is a labyrinth of alleys and marketplaces, there exists a quiet, unassuming droid known as DR-5X. Designed by the innovative minds at TeknaCorp, DR-5X was created to tackle the everyday tasks that keep the city running smoothly, focusing primarily on trash collection and waste management.

DR-5X, affectionately nicknamed "Dex" by the residents, is equipped with advanced sensors and adaptive AI that allow it to navigate the crowded and chaotic urban environment with ease. Its primary function is to collect, sort, and recycle waste, ensuring that Coruscant's streets remain clean and its recycling systems efficient. Dex's design includes a waste collection system and two wheel balance drive for collecting, compacting, and even incinerating trash on the spot, making it an indispensable asset to the city.

Beyond its functional prowess, Dex has a fun and sometimes quirky personality. Programmed with a cheerful disposition and as well as a small database of jokes and trivia, DR-5X may stop to chat with citizens as it goes about its duties. Over time, Dex has become a beloved figure in many neighborhoods, seen not just as a utility droid, but as a symbol of the community's spirit and resilience.

Dex was created using the latest Autodesk Fusion software. I started by sketching concepts based on research into existing Star Wars droids, focusing on unique features and functionality. In Fusion 360, I created the 3D model by designing the core body with basic shapes and refining with tools like extrude and sweep. I added McMasterCarr native wheel elements and configured joins to enable wheel animation. I finished by assigning materials and textures to bring the droid to life.
