DJ NIGHT RING

4.jpg
This instructable will let you know how to make hand rings that will light your name or any word you wish in dark !!
i am telling you its damn easy and will take only about 30 mins max if you have everything you will need in hand !!

Things You Will Need :

1) 7 Segment LED (8 if you include the dot)
2) 5 Pin connector
3) 3V Coin cell
4) Coin Battery Holder
5) Hot Glue Gun or solder iron (glue gun would be much easier)
6) Double side tape
7) A ring (preferably flat - cylindrical)

Basic Introduction to 7 Segment LED

photo 1.JPG
You will have 10 Pins Coming out of the LED.

See the pic below

> Every Red line indicated that its positive.
> Green lines indicated its the Ground or Negative.

> Each Pin Corresponds to a particular LED on the 7 segment.
> a,b,c,d,e,f,g as marked in the diagram below.

Note:
There are 2 types of 7 segment leds .. Anodic and Cathodic..
No issues seriously.. its just the polarity difference..
In the other type.. all reds will have to be ground and green will be positive.

Working:
Connect the green to ground. Then to which ever pin you give a positive supply of 3V  that  corresponding LED will glow !

Selecting Pins

By Now i am sure you would have decided what alphabets you need to display

My name is CP Sridhar.. so i made the rings to display my initial "C" and "P"

> All you need to do is find what all pins you need to display the letter you want and cut off the rest.
(DO NOT CUT OFF THE GROUND PINS BY MISTAKE !! You Need Them)

>You can either cut these pins now.. else you can cut off the wires coming out from the 5 pin connector which i will explain in the next step..

Insert the 5Pin Connector

Below Shows a picture of how the 5pin connector will look like

Bend the pins on the 7segment LED as Shown in the picture below.. and insert the 5pin connector onto the pins on the LED..

Now you can Cut the wires that you dont need !!

Get a Battery Holder and Place What You Have Made on It Using a Hot Glue Gun

It must look like as in the picture below.

Connect the Lead Wires to the Terminals on the Battery Holder

photo 2.JPG
This is the most time consuming part.. Cut the wires carefully to correct length so that they reach just the terminal.

Take all the Positive Leads to the Positive Terminal and Negative leads to the Negative terminal.

You can Either Solder or Use to Hot Glue Gun to fuse the wires with the terminal.

I prefer Hot Glue Gun as its simpler and easy to use.

Now if you insert a battery into the holder you must see your alphabet glow !!

Finish the Ring

Get a flat cylindrical ring that fits your finger well.

> Use a double side tape to connect your ring with the battery , which in turn will be inserted into the socket of the battery holder.

Pictures below  should clarify any further queries !!
