I love this greenhouse because it seems so right in the surrounding rural scene and because it is made from such an interesting eclectic mix of recuperated materials including ships timbers, giant industrial packing cases and discarded pairs of French windows. It also has multiple uses, providing rainwater harvesting for the sheep, poultry and plants from its roof, a reading room on a wet day for grandchildren, as well as the usual and expected year-round food production.

I also view it as a prototype for something we want to build, which is a sun space/draft lobby and/or Winter garden for our own tiny house.

Design & Construction Plus Rainwater Harvesting

In the above film I explain the concept behind the design and construction of this greenhouse and why I think it is a great prototype for an energy saving draught lobby or even a passive solar heating sunspace. I'll take you step-by-step through the design to its completion and you even get to meet the sheep, who was so happy to get her new drinking water supply from the greenhouse rainwater harvesting system!

There has never been a better time to grow your own food and/or take control of your energy and water needs.

You can find my original written article here You can also find our own design, DIY stand alone recuperated window glass and pallet wood greenhouse and our Low cost $5 recuperated pallet wood and polythene home-made greenhouse here on Instructables or on my blog or youtube site.

Feel free to ask questions either here or on the blog or film.

All the very best and Happy Recuperating!
