DIY Jean Purse

For this tutorial I will be making a purse from a pair of old jeans. This project could also work with a jean skirt. First we need to get together all our materials.

First you will need a pair of old pants, shorts, or even a jean skirt. I will be using jeans. You will also need:
1-needle and thread
2-seem binder
3-scissors
4-tape measure
5-pins
6-marker

Lay your jeans out flat and measure how deep you would like your purse to be. Add an inch or so for the seem.

kjdart 011.jpg
using your marker, draw a dotted line across desired length.

kjdart 012.jpg
cut along the dotted line.

kjdart 017.jpg
turn your skirt inside out.

Sew the bottom of the skirt together, and yes I am sewing all of this by hand because unfortunately I don't own a sewing machine.

Then sew seembinder on top of stitching. Use pins to help hold down the seembinder so that it doesn't get in your way while sewing.

Turn your purse backside right. Ok we finished the base, onto the straps.

kjdart 028.jpg
take that extra length you cut off earlier and lay it out flat.

kjdart 029.jpg
cut along the seem. Then cut into 4 equal strips.

With the light side facing out sew 1 end of the straps together

Then fold the strap dark side facing out and sew it all together. We finished our first strap. Repeat steps 12 and 13 for the other strap.

kjdart 037.jpg
Ok now that we are all finished with the straps we are going to sew them onto the base.

sew one end of the strap right above the front pocket. Sew the other end above the other front pocket. Flip your purse to the back and repeat.

Decorate! Now that we finished the purse we can decorate it! For this tutorial I will be adding rhinestones.

kjdart 044.jpg

materials you need to rhinestone.
1-hot glue gun
2-rhinestones in various sizes
3-newspaper
I'm also decorating mine with a feather accessory.

kjdart 043.jpg
Set out newspaper so  you don't get glue on your table.

kjdart 048.jpg
plan out where you want the rhinestones to go

kjdart 049.jpg
put a dot of glue where the rhinestone will be placed

kjdart 050.jpg
