Electronic Component Plaque for 1000 Instructables Followers!

̶I̶n̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶s̶ ̶I̶n̶s̶t̶r̶u̶c̶t̶a̶b̶l̶e̶,̶ ̶I̶ ̶w̶i̶l̶l̶ ̶r̶e̶v̶i̶e̶w̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶s̶u̶p̶e̶r̶ ̶c̶o̶o̶l̶ ̶p̶l̶a̶q̶u̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶I̶n̶s̶t̶r̶u̶c̶t̶a̶b̶l̶e̶s̶ ̶s̶e̶n̶d̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶ ̶w̶h̶e̶n̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶ ̶r̶e̶a̶c̶h̶ ̶1̶0̶0̶0̶ ̶f̶o̶l̶l̶o̶w̶e̶r̶s̶.̶JUST KIDDING!

Did you know that I recently hit 1000 followers and 1 MILLION views on Instructables? I am extremely excited to finally reach both milestones, so in this Instructable, I'm going to make myself my own plaque!

I got the idea for making this from Youtube. YouTube sends you a (non-homemade!) "play button" plaque when you reach 100K, 1M, or 10M subscribers.

Since almost all of my projects and Instructables are about woodworking and electronics, I thought I would make my own from scrap wood, and decorate it with some useless electronic components, which I have accumulated over the years, and never put to use so far...

If you'd like to make your own plaque, along with the wood and components that are listed above, you'll also need a hand saw, some measuring and marking tools, wood glue, and some CA glue.

To start the project, I went through all of my containers that had electronic components, and selected the specific ones that I wanted.

Add whatever you want!: Nuts, bolts, bearings, diodes, transistors, switches, LED's, connectors, resistors, screwdriver bits, heatsinks, springs, potentiometers, motors, Solar panels, coils, capacitors, Fuses, camera sensors, and more! (And most importantly don't forget the Instructables sticker!)

Ceramic capacitors, anyone?

I then went through my pile of wood, and selected three pieces that I thought would look nice. After doing that, I got the idea of making it a bit fancier, and cut off the corners in a 45 degree angle. While doing this, I also thought of a quick tip for people that don't have Miter-Saws, like me: start the cut with a hacksaw, and finish the rest with a hand saw.

I used the hand saw that I won in the Instructables 2015 Shelving Contest to cut the board to the length that I wanted. This saw is EXTREMELY sharp. It took me about 5 seconds to saw through each one!

After I had finished mitering the corners, I applied wood glue to the boards, and clamped them together. Since I wasn't able to use regular clamps, I used CA glue to hold them in place while the wood glue dried...

While the glue was drying, I glued the Instructables sticker to the middle of the plaque. This is the most important part of this Instructable. Do not forget to do this!

Do I need to provide instructions on how to do this? :)

Since I had already chosen which the components I wanted, all I had to do was arrange them in the way that I wanted. I wanted it to look like they were placed on totally randomly, and I think I did a pretty good job. You tell me!

If any of the components that you choose have long legs, I recommend that you snip them off.

I used some CA glue to glue all of the components onto the wood. I suppose other adhesives will work too, but super glue is cheap, and cures really quickly.
