DIY Weave Pendant Lamp (Go Green)

P6191207.JPG

Learning the art of lamp making is fun. The rays of light it gives and experimenting on different kinds of shades is awesome. I have just started venturing into the field of lamps. This is a pendant lamp made out of paper. Instead of throwing old news paper away you can just weave them to lamp shades. This is a good party lamp. Go Green :)

This type of Lamp shade is strictly for LED or Low wattage Bulbs only, as paper cannot withstand high heat.

Materials Required

With the help of scissor cute the paper lengthwise into long strips.

With the help of the thin rod, roll the strips. Glue the rolls.

In this way create about 20 rolls.

Form the Base

Form the Base. Now take one of the strips of rolled paper and glue it to the bangle like a hook.

Similarly glue other strips to the bangle. About 8 strips are needed to give the body of the lamp.

This will form the vertical strips.

Go Up... Go Down

Now starts the weaving horizontally.

Take the first strip and glue it to one of the vertical strip. Now go above a strip and then below a strip.

In this way complete the full round horizontally.

Each time glue to the vertical strips.

When the full round is complete glue the end point to the start point.

Complete Weave

In this way complete the rest of the lamp shade down ward.

Do not weave tightly or else the light wont be visible outside.

The main aim is to get a check shaped hole in between the weave.

The check hole should get bigger as you go down.

So the shape can get slightly irregular. But when lighted it will give good rays of light.

Cardboard

Now based on the bangle shape cut a cardboard piece. Based on the Lamp holder cut a hole in the middle.

Place the lamp holder in the hole and secure it with the shade ring.

Glue the cardboard with Lamp holder to the top of the lamp. Let it dry.

Test the Lamp

Place the lamp in the holder.

Test if the Pendant lamp is firm and does not fall off when raised.

Now switch on the bulb. I have used the red LED bulb here.

The light given is suitable for a party or in the garden. If you want softer light you can go for lighter color shades of LED bulb.
