DIY Unturned Makeshift Scope
If you wanted to make an inexpensive scope for airsoft, LARP-ing or just for fun, you can try the Unturned recipe for the Makeshift Scope: Binoculars + Duct Tape(https://unturned.fandom.com/wiki/Makeshift_Scope). No jokes, that's everything it takes to make a very crude scope. But we can improve on this idea a bit and add some railing for airsoft weapons, virtually any weapon, but I would strongly advise against using it with a real firearm, since they have a recoil (recoil which can injure your eye, I will come back to this).
My design is simple: I had a pair of old and broken binoculars laying around, a 3d printer (you can use duct tape as in the original recipe) and some camouflage tape to glue it down to them. I 3d printed some custom holder for it from a ris/picattiny 20mm rail model (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2140772). Sanded down the binoculars to get rid of the old rubberised handle, then made a custom cap for a broken piece of plastic. The last step is glueing down the camo tape.
The problem with recoil weapon is that you don't have a REAL scope, you just use a scope made from binoculars, so you stick your eye right into it everytime you shoot, otherwise you won't see a thing because of the lenses used in the first assembly of lenses (the game lies to you, since you can clearly see that in the image you can see while carrying the gun).
Supplies
- Pair of unused binoculars for tearing apart
- 3d printer / duct tape
- camo net/tape (optional)
- glue gun(if you use adhesive tape, it's not necessary)
Preparing the Scope
First step is tearing down the binoculars so you have just half of it. Sand down the excess of plastic if you want to paint it or cover with camouflage tape.
Designing the Mount
To mount it to a weapon, you need the custom holder, which you can make yourself with this model from citruspers. He included the Fusion 360 files to be able to remix it. I enlarged the base by 10mm on each side, then measured the diameter of the scope to have it represented in the CAD. I printed the mount, and I glued it down with a silicone glue gun(with cheap silicone sticks - be generous so as not to fall after it is mounted).
Beautifying the Scope
Now is the time to add any camo, if any, to the makeshift scope. To have the true Unturned experience, leave it blank.
