This instructable will show you how to make stamps using styrofoam. These stamps are easy and fun to make. I didn't realize until I stamped one to see how it turns out, that the styrofoam stamps give a cool smudgy pattern. Try making some right away, you'll have fun for sure!
Lets start!
Materials Needed
To make thermocol sheet stamps you'll need:
- Styrofoam sheet,
- Pen or pencil,
- Shape template,
- X-acto knife,
- Cardboard,
- Glue.
Templates
Styrofoam is great for making stamps. You can cut them into any shape you want.
Here's a template of the patterns I used for the styrofoam stamps. I made shape stamps out of cardboard so I didn't go with the basic shapes this time. I chose to use simple flowers, leaves, heart patterns.
Cutting the Patterns
You can cut the stamps into any shape you want or search online for stamping patterns.
Try out the patterns I used, they're simple and easy to trace. Print out the patterns and cut them out of the paper,
Place the cutout paper patterns on the styrofoam and trace around the edges with a pen or pencil,
Now, use an anti cutter to cut the patterns out of the styrofoam.
Be careful, styrofoam aren't as smooth as rubber and they break into small pieces very easily.
Preparing the Stamps
I used the tip of the x-acto knife carefully to cut out a tiny piece from the middle (stigma) of the cut out styrofoam flower patterns,
Styrofoam sheets are easily breakable so it's better to glue them on something that doesn't breaks easily, I used cardboard.
Cut the cardboard into small pieces but make sure that the cut out styrofoam patterns fit on the cardboard pieces.
Glue the styrofoam patterns on the cardboard pieces (individually).
Attaching the Handle
Take a small piece of cardboard to make the handle, I used a 2 X 1.5 inch cardboard piece to make the stamp handle,
Now roll the cardboard piece as shown in the picture and glue the sides (I used clear scotch tape),
Now simply attach the handle on the back side of the stamp (cardboard) using glue (hot glue or white glue).
Wait till the glue dries.
Start Stamping!
I used fabric paint for stamping.
It's better to brush fabric paint on the styrofoam stamps and make sure to spread the paint evenly over it.
Now stamp and press the stamp softly. These styrofoam stamps give a cool smudgy look , you'll love it. Use them for scrap-booking or for making greeting cards, They're sooo easy to make and fun to use!
Enjoy!
