DIY Sword With Hand Guard

Quite a handful of people in my makerspace class made swords, so I decided to try it put on my own.

Supplies

Soft foam

Cardboard

32 in. bamboo skewer

Box cutter

Hot glue

Pencil

Cutting the Cardboard

Cut your cardboard with a box cutter so its dimensions are 12 in. by 4 in.

Bending the Cardboard

Bend the cardboard so it looks like a semi circle. Make sure the ends are aligned. It'll crease while bending it.

Drawing Dots on the Cardboard

From 2 1/2 in. from one end, draw a dot from the center of the edge. Do the same on the other side.

Stabbing the Cardboard

Poke holes where the dots are using a pencil, then the bamboo skewer and align the two holes together. Stab both holes with the bamboo skewer.

Cutting the Styrofoam

Take out the bamboo skewer from the cardboard then cut your soft styrofoam to 3 ¼ x 2 ¼ x 1 ½ inches. Stab the styrofoam towards the edge of it. Take out the styrofoam from the skewer.


Stabbing Both the Cardboard and Styrofoam

  1. Take the cardboard and put one edge through the skewer. Put the styrofoam through the skewer, then the other edge of the cardboard.

Hot Glueing Everything

Hot glue the holes from the skewer. This includes the styrofoam as well.

The Final Step

Make any fine adjustments if needed.
