DIY Stuffed Toys
We're going to make some very cool pillow stuffed toys from some old things we had lying around the house. This project is very fun and easy to make, especially for kids. It can be finished in a rainy afternoon and then they can play with it for a long time. So come along and lets get started!
Materials
To make this you will need:
- 2 pieces of old fabric (mine is from an old pillow)
- something to stuff it with (this can be pillow stuffing, packing peanuts or an old t-shirt cut into pieces)
- a sewing kit including:
- scissors
- a needle
- thread
Sewing
Firstly you have to draw out your shape on both pieces of fabric. I chose a fish because the shape is simple but you could do anything you can think of like a heart or a cat-shaped pillow. After you do this it is very important to turn the fabric upside-down as that is going to be the side facing up. Then with the needle and thread you have to start sewing all around your shape on the line you drew previously. Remember to leave a small gap ( around 5cm) without being sewn, we will need it for the next step.
Stuffing
Now through the hole we left previously we have to turn the stuffed animal inside-out. Once it's inside-out all the seams will be gone and we can start to fill it up. Always put a little bit more than you need to fill the area with the hole. Finally when its filled you can sew it back up and it's almost done.
Decorating
We're almost done. All that's left is to decorate it. Just grab some markers, string or anything you find and have some fun! You can make cute little eyes out of buttons or pins or get coloured yarn and put it on. This is the most fun step as you just have to get creative. Now we're done and hopefully you will have a very nice stuffed pillow.
