DIY Speaker Volume Controller With Sugru

So you have made a DIY speaker and casing but want to create a custom knob for the bare metal volume potentiometer. Time to get busy with Sugru.

The speaker must be in it finished casing, as once the knob is made, it can not be removed.

You will need:

DIY Speaker Kit (made and in finished casing)

Sugru

Clean hands

Modelling tools (be creative and use pencils, metal rulers, table knives etc.)

Prepare the Sugru

Open the Sugru and kneed between your clean fingers for a minute until it has softened up. We mixed yellow and blue to make a fabulous forest green.

Modelling Time

You now have just 30 minutes to create your creation. Remember it is a 3D model that will be seen from all sides, so keep twisting it around as you work. The Sugru will slowly harden as the time passes, so continued working makes it easier to get a refined finish.

Make sure that the Sugru does not touch the nut and spacer that secures the potentiometer to the casing. If you do this, it will stick and you will not be able to change the volume!

Leave somewhere safe to harden for 24 hours.

Use It
