DIY Soldering Station W/ Fume Extractor

DSC01315.JPG

Hi everybody! This is a soldering workstation made by me. I do not have a step by step tutorial for it but I think the pictures are enough. However,I am still adding some description with the pictures.

Materials and Tools Needed for This Project

Materials-
1. A box made of metal (I used a casing salvaged from a non-working computer psu).

2.A gluestick.

3. 2x Alligator/Crocodile Clip.

4.A cloth clip (optional).

5.A steel scrubber (optional, can be replaced with sponge).

6.A plastic cap for holding the steel scrubber (In my case,a cap from a old bottle, optional).

7.A DC fan (optional) .

8.A metal cloth hanger.

Tools-
1.Superglue

2.And Superglue :)

Making the Soldering Iron Holder

Take a cloth hanger made of metal. Cut a long piece with a cutting pliers or by bending continuously inward and outwards. Take the cut piece and wrap around it a round object to make a coil shape. Glue it to one corner of the box. This is to hold the soldering iron,so glue it well and don't move it untill 1 hour.

Making the Solder Reel Holder.

This is really easy to do. Just take the cap of the glue stick and glue it beside the iron holder. If you plan to keep only one reel on it, just glue the cap. I found that gluing the entire gluestick allow me to keep some extra reels there.

Gluing the Clips

Glue two crocodile clip to one corner of the circuit board. 1 clip will also work, but 2 clips helps to keep the circuit stable while I solder. 2 clips also allow me to solder 2 small circuits at one. Also, glue one clothe-clip to another corner of the box. This is to hold bigger circuits.

Gluing the Steel Scrubber Holder.

Now, glue the cap in one side of the box.Make sure that the steel scrubber does not touch the iron-holder when placed.

Final Step- Gluing the Fan As Fume Extractor.

Glue the fan in middle of the iron holder and the clips. Make sure to glue the fan backwards,so it suck fumes instead of pushing it. You can power it using a 9v battery, which will make it portable.

Congratulations!

Congratulations! You have just made your soldering station! So,lets take one last look at what it does-

1. It can hold 3 circuits at a time,2 small and 1 big.

2.The fan will suck the soldering fume which is harmful for health.

3.The steel scrubber will help to clean the oxide of your soldering iron.

4. A solder reel holder which can hold 2-3 reels.

5.Soldering Iron holder which will reduce the chance of stepping on soldering iron (happened to me once, not a wonderful experience -_- )

6.Giving you the pleasure of using a soldering station made by you.
