🔋DIY Solar-Powered Emergency Battery Pack With Built-in Protection

If you’re a hobbyist, chances are you have a few solar panels lying around collecting dust. Why not put them to good use? In this project, we’ll build a simple solar-powered emergency battery pack using a small 6V solar panel, a lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄) battery, and a TP4056 charge controller with built-in protection.

This setup is compact, affordable, and perfect for emergencies where you need a portable power source to run small devices or LED lights. By leaving it outside during the day, the solar panel charges the battery safely, and you’ll always have backup power when you need it.

6V Solar Panel (2.5W)

TP4056 Lithium Charging Module (5V 1A with protection)

LiFePOâ‚„ Battery Cell (3.2V, 2000mAh / 2Ah)

Wires (for connections)

Soldering Iron & Solder

Heat Shrink Tubing or Electrical Tape (for insulation)

Prepare the Solar Panel

  1. Take the 6V solar panel and check its output with a multi-meter under sunlight.
  2. Confirm it gives around 5–6V in bright sunlight, which is suitable for charging via TP4056.


Connect the TP4056 Module

  1. Solder the + and - terminals of the solar panel to the IN+ and IN- pins of the TP4056 board.
  2. This module ensures controlled charging and prevents overcharging/discharging of the battery.

Attach the Battery & Insulate & Secure

  1. Connect the battery positive (+) to B+ and battery negative (-) to B- on the TP4056 board.
  2. Double-check polarity to avoid damaging the module.


  1. Use heat shrink or tape to insulate connections.
  2. Place the battery and module inside a small enclosure to protect from weather and accidental shorts.


Testing the Setup

  1. Place the solar panel under sunlight.
  2. The charging LED on the TP4056 should turn ON, indicating charging.
  3. Once fully charged, the protection board ensures the battery won’t overcharge.
  4. You now have a small solar-charged LiFePOâ‚„ battery pack!
  5. It can power small loads like LED lights, low-power circuits, or even serve as a backup for DIY electronics projects.
