DIY - Smart Conveyor Belt

This guide will walk you through the process of building a self barcode scanning conveyor belt using aluminum extrusion, 3D-printed gears, a motor, and two smartphones for scanning barcodes. The system automatically scans barcodes on moving products and retrieves information from a database. This information helps store manager or user to maintain database like Manufacturing date, Expiry Date, Batch number etc. Hobbyist people can scale this thing up and play around it.
Supplies

Tools used:
- Allen Key Set
- Screw Driver
Fasteners:
- M3X12mm - 4qty
- M4x10mm Bolts
- M4 T- Nuts
- M4 Plain Washers
Materials Used:
- Aluminium Extrusion 5.1 Meters Approx. ( Try to get aluminium extrusion pre cut from vendor which you're going to buy
- 320 mm - 4qty
- 340mm - 1qty
- 700mm -2 qty
- 300mm -2 qty
- 80 mm -4 qty
- Extruded Link Brackets (90 deg)- 20 qty
- Bearing Pillow block - KFL002 - 4qty
- 3d Printing Filament
- Camera Mounts - Qty 2
- Motor (which I've used- you can change it according to the availability. - Rhino 200RPM 15Kgcm DC Planetary Geared
- Needle and thread (incase you wont get closed loop belt you need to stitch it manually).
3D Printing
Print one quantity of each gear and motor mount plate using a 3D printer with 30% infill and gyroid pattern.
Motor Mounting

Mount the Motor in the 3D printed motor mount and add M3x12 mm bolts in the motor tap.

- Fixing the Rods in Pillow Blocks:
- Insert both rods into their respective pillow blocks.
- Ensure the rods are parallel and properly aligned.
- Tighten the set screws on the pillow blocks to secure the rods in place.
- Passing the Belt & Fastening Pillow Blocks:
- Slide the belt onto the rods before fully tightening the pillow blocks.
- Adjust the position of the pillow blocks to ensure smooth belt movement.
- Fasten the pillow blocks securely to the base/frame once proper tension is achieved.
- Mounting the Gear on One End of the Rod:
- Place the gear on one end of the rod.
- Align it properly and secure it with a grub screw to prevent slipping.
- Installing the Motor Mount & Attaching Motor Gear:
- Position the motor mount below the rod where the gear is installed.
- Fix the motor securely onto the mount.
- Attach the 3D-printed motor shaft gear to the motor.
- Ensure proper meshing with the rod gear and fasten the grub screw on the motor gear.
- Final Adjustments:
- Rotate the system manually to check for smooth motion.
- Adjust gear alignment if necessary.
- Run the motor at low speed to test the drive system.
