Making Concrete Base

Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.13.03.50.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.13.08.64.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.13.12.73.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.13.24.40.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.13.49.90.png

First, mix concrete with right amount of water, add some cooking oil into the mold (I am using 10.5 cm diameter small bucket in which was yogurt) and pour concrete until you reach 3.5 cm of height in the mold. Cover bucket with something like a plastic bag at let it cure for 2-5 days.

Cutting and Sanding Plywood Parts

Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.14.05.74.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.14.25.01.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.14.21.40.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.14.40.93.png

Cut 5 parts with a jigsaw from plywood by using template. I suggest using smaller blade for the jigsaw, it will give cleaner cut. Then sand all parts with 100 and 220 grit sandpapers.

Template - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ZSa5sKekQp9ZH9b...

Gluing Front Face of the Stand

Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.15.09.50.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.15.12.46.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.15.17.27.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.15.27.20.png

Now we need to make front face of the headphone stand. Just glue 3 different size parts with wood glue. Don't use too much glue and try not to add glue around the part edges. Then clamp parts and let it dry.

Cutting Other Parts

Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.14.46.44.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.15.46.12.png

Cut 2.5 cm length part from a decorative wood stick (stick's diameter 1.5 cm). You can cut this part longer, depending on your headphones.

Then cut and glue the box for the dimmer. As plywood thickness varies in different countries you'll need to make simple box which will work for you. I used ~6mm plywood.

Cutting Path for the Wires

Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.15.58.85.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.16.06.19.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.16.01.81.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.16.09.29.png

Now, we need to route wire from the RGB LED strip to the dimmer. Cut small path to the dimmer on the bottom part. And on the top part drill two holes and wiggle drill to get both holes connected.

Gluing Back Side Part of the Stand

Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.16.15.43.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.16.15.42.png

Glue two plywood parts in which you routed path for the wires and clamp them.

Gluing the Front Face and the Back Side Parts of the Stand

Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.16.24.51.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.16.26.87.png

Now, glue the before glued part to the front face part of the headphone stand and clamp them.

Drilling Holes in the Box

Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.16.17.93.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.16.17.94.png

Drill two holes in the glued plywood box - one for the dimmer and one for the 12V power cable.

Applying Finish to Plywood

Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.16.38.74.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.16.46.63.png

Apply any finish you like to the plywood parts. I used redwood finish and applied 4 coats.

If Mistake Happens

Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.16.55.74.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.17.04.95.png

Don't forget to glue small part on which headphones will hang before applying finish, like I did.

But if something like this happens, just sand spot before gluing a part.

Drilling Concrete Base

Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.17.13.17.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.17.19.09.png

Drill hole for the 6 cm length screw in the concrete base, 1cm away from the center. Screw should stick out by 3cm.

Sanding Concrete Base

Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.17.25.02.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.17.31.100.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.17.27.44.png

If your concrete base is quite rough, sand it with 60 and 220 grit sandpapers.

Drilling Pilot Hole

Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.17.40.37.png

We need to drill pilot hole for the screw. Place your drill that you'll be able to drill straight hole in the middle of the widest part of the stand.

Preparing for Soldering

Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.18.20.32.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.18.23.68.png

Cut protective material from the 40 cm length RGB LED strip.

Route two small wires through the stand's hole.

Put thin and flexible 1.5 meter power cable and dimmer into the box.

Soldering

Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.18.45.27.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.18.50.59.png

Solder thin wires to the RGB LED strip.

Solder power cable's wires to the dimmer where DC IN is written.

Solder thin wires from the strip to the dimmer where MOTOR is written.

Solder other end of the power cable to the 12V power connector, add electrical tape and screw on the protective shell.

Gluing Dimmer, Cable and LED Strip

Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.19.17.71.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.19.27.69.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.19.40.15.png

When we have done all soldering, we can hot glue dimmer and power cable to the box, place electrical tape on the strip's connections and glue the RGB strip to the plywood stand.

Finishing Build

Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.20.08.40.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.20.12.32.png
Desktop Screenshot 2018.04.27 - 11.20.17.38.png

Finally, glue the box with the dimmer to the main part of the plywood stand.

Then add protective finish to the concrete base, add silicone legs and screw the screw into the plywood stand.

And you have done it!
