DIY Samsung Tablet No Battery Power Hack

Hi. I got a Samsung Tablet (SM-T310) with no internal battery. With this instructable, you will be able to implement a power input so that the usb port is free.

Checking Operation Via Usb Port

The first thing to do is to check if the device is working through the power supply via the usb port. Try to use a short cable and in good condition, because device may not turn on with an old cable .

Identifying the Battery Power Connector

The device has no battery. So we need to identify the positive and negative poles of the battery connector. On this Samsung Tab 3, the battery connector has 6 contacts, and you need to solder the respective wires to the 2 pins, at the beginning and at the end of the connector, as shown in the photos.

The red wire is soldered to the 2 connectors corresponding to the positive pole, and the black wire is soldered to the 2 connectors corresponding to the negative pole.

Then drill 2 holes in the housing and solder a female connector, which can be glued later.

Power Source, Such As a Power Bank

The LiPo battery works between 3.7 and 4.2 V DC. Therefore, you need to attend these voltage range. In my case, I have a new power bank, and an old one that is hacked, using two old smartphone LiPo batteries. There is a switch, to choose which battery will be connected to the charging/discharging circuit, individually, before the power bank is turned on.

The power bank's internal contacts are suitable for using 18650 type batteries, which work in the voltage range mentioned above. So the same can work with LiPo batteries. By soldering wires on the respective positive and negative poles, you have a DC source stabilized in said working range, which is suitable for connection to the tablet. When the power bank is connected to the power outlet, we will have 4.2 V DC stabilized powering the device. When disconnected from the power outlet, we will have battery power consumption.

In my case, when I'm close to a power outlet, I choose the smaller battery from the switch, that is older and less efficient, and leave the power bank plugged in. When I need portability, I move the switch to the right and choose the connection with the gray battery, which is 2000 mAh, getting an autonomy of 2 h using the tablet with all the functions. As with the tablet itself, solder a female connector.

Finally, take a parallel wire and solder male connectors, respecting the polarity chosen when soldering the female connectors, which must necessarily be in the same polarity. With this, you will be able to use a device that does not have an internal battery for various purposes.

The entire process is recorded in the video.

Thank you and good projects!
