Struggling with spice jars cluttering your kitchen? What if you had a stylish and functional way to store them while keeping them easily accessible? This DIY Rotating Spice Bottle Keeper is a perfect addition to any kitchen, giving a sleek, space-saving solution for organizing spices neatly. Let’s build this creative and practical spice organizer!
Supplies
- Glass spice bottles with lid (preferably identical in size)
- Circular sun-board base
- Compass
- Strong adhesive & sealant
- Spray paint or varnish (optional, for finishing touch)
- Spices
Preparing the Base

- Place a square sheet (wood, MDF, acrylic, sturdy cardboard or sun-board) on a flat surface.
- Use a compass to draw a perfect circle of the desired diameter. Ensure the size is large enough to accommodate the spice bottles.
- Carefully cut along the marked circle.
- Find the exact center of the circle and mark it.
- This will be the point where the central support rod or rotating mechanism will be installed.
Make It Sturdy

- Place the two sun-board sheets on top of each other, ensuring they are perfectly aligned.
- Apply the adhesive evenly around the surface of the bottom sheet.
- Place the top acrylic sheet onto the glued surface and press firmly.
Installing the Central Support

- Take a small cylindrical wooden block to act as the base support.
- Use a small glass jar lid or a metal disc as the rotating mechanism.
- Fix it on top of the wooden block using hot glue or strong adhesive.
- Make sure it's centered properly for balanced movement.
- Once attached, place the sturdy acrylic sheet over it.
Creating the Bottle Holders

- The curved cutouts are made to snugly fit standard-sized spice bottles, preventing them from tipping over.
- Sun-board provides a lightweight yet firm base, making it ideal for supporting the bottles while maintaining the structure’s durability.
- The circular design ensures that when placed on the rotating base, the bottles remain balanced and accessible from all angles.
Fixing the Bottle Holders

- Place the bottle holder cutouts on the rotating top platform.
- Ensure they are evenly spaced to maintain balance when bottles are added.
- Gently rotate the tray to ensure the bottle holders do not wobble or tilt.
Adding Stability and Balance

- A circular sun-board piece is cut and shaped to fit between the base and the rotating platform.
- The round sun-board piece is placed between the two main platforms, aligning it centrally around the existing cylindrical column.
- The support ring is glued or fixed in place using adhesive, ensuring a firm grip while maintaining a lightweight yet sturdy build.
Applying Colours

- Spray in smooth, even strokes, moving side to side.
- Apply multiple thin coats instead of one thick coat to prevent drips.
- Allow each coat to dry before applying the next (usually 10-15 minutes).
- For a glossy finish, add a clear topcoat after the final layer dries.
Filling Spices in Bottles

- Slowly pour the spice into the bottle, tapping it gently to settle the contents.
- Tightly close the lid to maintain freshness and store the bottles in a cool, dry place.
