Rivnuts provide a secure, lasting rivet insert that takes the place of a hole.
Simply insert a rivet nut into the hole and use a rivet nut tool to drive it home.

The rivnut tool will screwed into the rivnut to expand it and apply pressure at the opposite side, causing a bulge to form on the back side.

The plans at the third video is for a Rivnut Tool suitable for rivets 3-4-5-6 using bolts/nuts M10.

But the procedure is the same as at the first video that have use M12 bolts/nuts and is suitable for rivets 3-4-5-6-8.

Materials & Tools

Flat bar 20x3mm 2pcs 85mm

Flat bar 8mm thick 2pcs 22x22mm

Flat bar 6mm thick 1pcs 22x30mm

Long nuts M12 2pcs

Bolt M12x80~90mm full thread 1pcs

Allen Socket head cup bolt M12x10mm max

Spring 35x18x14x2mm 1pcs

Vary drill bits (max size Ø12.5mm) and according the fittings for each rivet size that we want.

For each set we need 2 bolts M12x10mm and one Allen Socket head cup bolt for each rivets number. (3-4-5-6-8)

Or you can cut off the head of a suitable bolt keeping the threads.

If you dicided to make all Nums you will need

Rivet size ...... Drill bit Ø .........Taps

.......3..................2.5mm ..........M3x0.50

.......4 .................3.3mm ..........M4x0.70

.......5..................4.2mm ..........M5x0.80

.......6................. 5.0mm ..........M6x1.00

.......8..................6.8mm ..........M8x1.25

Also you will need one more drill bit 10.2mm and a M12x1.75 set taps.

From a flat bar 20x3mm cut 2 pieces 85mm.

From a flat bar 6mm thick cut 1 piece 22x30mm.

I have make a jig using magnets to assembly the pieces and proceed to welding.

My order for M12 bolts and nuts it had late so I decided to proceed using M10 bolts and nuts and four spacers 0.50mm to cover the needed distance of the extra 2.3mm.

Later and after welds done the parcel arrived.

From a flat bar 8mm thick cut 2 pieces 22x22mm.

At the center of the two pieces drill a pilot hole Ø3.5mm.

At the uper piece increace the hole to Ø12.5mm.

At the lower piece increace the hole to Ø10.2mm. Later after welds will make a thread M12.

Assembly/adjust the pieces for welding.

After weldsdone, proceed with the M12 threat at the lower piece.

I haven't a lathe so I decided to make the needed fittings at my drill press.

I have followed this method at the past some times and the results are good enough.

By this way I had made a threated insert for my grinders handle.

Using a piece of steel 30x30mm about 100mm or any suitable will help to make the fittings.

When procedure start this piece of steel must be stay secured at the drill press until the end.

Secure the piece of steel at the drill press vise.

Make a hole Ø10.2mm from side to side by the use of 4-7-9-10.2mm drill bits.

When the hole is done place a M12 tap at your drills chock.

By hands turn the chock left right until cut the first threads like if you are using it by the tap handle.

The use of the chocks key can be helpful.

When the tap has cut the first threads loosen the chock and continue taping by the tap handle.

When the thread is ready, then we will be able to drill holes or cut threads at the bolts and make the fittings.

The tool is ready.
Tested and the results are prety good.

Thanks for your reading.
Good Luck if you try it.

Never say I can't do it.
Necessity is the mother of invention.
