DIY Recyclable Eggshell Bluetooth Speaker

This is an homemade bluetooth speaker made with recycled and recyclable materials. It's easy and fun to make! Try it!

Tools:

• Microwave
• Coocker
• Oven
• Teaspoon
• Cooking pot
• Bowl
• Weight
• Blender or mortar
• Wire cutters (opz.)

Materials:

• Eggshells 60gr
• Water 66ml
• Calcium alginate 15gr
• Clay (for the mold)
• Glue (opz.)
• An old (working) bluethooth speaker parts

Electronics:

• An old (working) bluethooth speaker parts

or

• Bletooth module
• Speaker
• wires
• battery

Wash the eggshells carefully and boil them for 15 minutes to disinfect everything.

You can dry the eggshels in two ways:

A. Put the eggshells in the oven at 100 celsius degrees for 15 minutes

B. Put the eggshells in the microwave at high power for 1 minute and then at medium power for 3 more minutes

Tip: the eggshells must be brittle not burn, when you hear a subdle crackling sound it means that the eggshells are ready!

Using the clay create a mold of the chosen shape.

!!Be careful to leave the space inside for the electronic parts!!

To speed things up you can dry the mold in the oven at 100 celsius degrees for max 30 minutes or let it air dry for the needed time (+24h).

Put the eggshells in a blender, grind it down to the tiniest particles possible

Tip: the smallest the particles the smoothest the surface!

Note: this step and the next one must be done in 3 minutes max or the mix will be too hard to shape.

Note2.0: Don't mix all the powder now, you'll need some of it later (use 2/3 of the recipe)

First put the alginate in the bowl, add the water and start to mix it (mix the slurry until no lumps remain). Then add gradually the eggshels until everything is mixed well.

Spread evenly the mix inside the mold with a thickness of 5mm + or -

Tip: use some greaseproof paper to help getting the shape out of the mold

!!!Be carefull of leaving some holes for inputs and outputs

Now, you can let it dry in 2 ways:

A. put the mold and the mix in the oven at 50° for 5-10 minutes check and repeat one more time. (it may need more time to dry completely)

B. let it air dry, less consuption but more time needed (24h+)

Insert the electronic parts inside. You may need to cut bigger holes, just use some wire cutters.

Tip: some glue might be helpful to keep parts where they should be

Repeat the step 5 with the rest of the material to create more slurry, then use it to refine the speaker.

Let it air dry for the time needed

!Don't put in the oven this time!
