DIY Rainbow LEGO Minifigure Wall Mounted Display Case
Hello, My name is Riley. This is a display case i've made, and it has hung on my wall since. I love the decorative sense of it, and knowing it was completely free to make. I used all pieces I already had and got to use up my plain lego minifigure torsos.
The first couple of steps below are how to construct the display case. This is just an idea, so feel free to use mine, or completely make up your own. Following the steps of the display case will be each of my minifigures that I have put together.
For this challenge I went with the rainbow theme and more. But I also did each minifigure as all one color. So technically, I did both challenges in one; All rainbow or all one color. I thought this was pretty creative on my part and I really like how it turned out. I hope you enjoy mine and I hope you decide to make one as well.
Supplies
The only things you need are:
-spare extra legos
-a little bit of wall tape
-and some creativity
The Display Case Outline
Figure out roughly, how big you would like to make your display case. Find base plates to match that size and make sure they match up. I used two 16x16 dark grey baseplates. Once you have picked your plates lay them face down on your work space, keeping them aligned how they will be at the finish. Once this is done you are ready for Step 2
Connections
Now it's time to connect our plates together, and add connections for the mounts as well. I used two 6x6 triangle plates to hold the base plates securely together. I placed them half and half on both sides. You could also use 4 2x6 plates, two on the edges and two in the middle, or two 4x6 plates the same way. I also added some scrap 2x plates for the mount connections at the top and bottom, two studs away. Once completed move down to Steps 3 and 4.
Leveling
Once mounted to the wall the display will be lifted off the wall a little bit, leaving fragile areas. In this step I added two 2x3 plates onto my base plate connection pieces to help stabilize the whole thing when mounted.
Podiums
The podiums are what each minifigure will actually be placed on, of course with the minifig plates on top. To make these is simple, grab a 1x2 brick with a studded front side and place a smooth tile of any color on top. This is an important step, and make sure that the smooth tile is not placed on the front studs, for this would not work for placing the minifigures later on. Once you have made your podiums, like the pictures to the right, for all of your slots, place them on the front side of the display case we made earlier. Make sure there is enough space on all sides so nothing is cramped or touching; refer to the picture above for an idea of how much space to leave. Once completed all thats left is to mount it on the wall, using lego of course.
Mounting
For this step, not everybody might have these pieces. They are not the easiest pieces to find, but don't worry because you can do the exact same thing with regular 2x2 plates. I do recommend doing this process with the modified 2x2 inverted plates rather than a regular one because the hold onto the wall will be stronger.
To mount on the wall place each of the two pieces into one of the mountings plates on the back of the display case. Make sure that they are center and add your tap to the back. Line up the whole case where you want it and press firmly to ensure a good stick. After that is done the display case is finished and all it needs is some unique minifigures to fill the slots.
