DIY Pumpkin Lantern
This a fun DIY project. This project is great for a Halloween party in a darker area, decoring your house/room, or just for fun! I got this idea from a school project I did a few years ago. I did a colorful one though, and it had a open top with a candle.
Supplies
One mason jar [ any size ]
Glue stick [ I prefer using the purple glue so you can see it better ]
Black permanent marker
Hot glue gun with glue stick
Heaving duty string
lights or a battery powered candle [ it doesn't matter how long the light strand is, just make sure the battery case can fit to the top of your mason jar lid. ]
Orange tissue paper
Gluing the Tissue Paper to the Mason Jar
First remove the lid from the jar, and set the lid to the side.
Take the glue stick and rub it all over the mason jar [ Just NOT the bottom or where the lid goes ] Or you can put the glue on the tissue paper, and then stick it on the mason jar.
Once you're finished you should have covered all of the mason jar except the bottom and where the lid goes. If you look at the last picture, you can see I only put the tissue paper up to the first line.
Let the tissue paper dry on the jar for at least 15-20 minutes. And while that's drying, plug your hot glue gun in.
Hot Gluing the Battery Pack Onto the Lid
If you want to use a battery powered candle, You can completely skip this step.
Remove the thin metal piece from the lid.
Grab a pencil. Set the battery pack on the thin metal piece [ Make sure the part where you would change the battery is facing up, when you're are tracing and gluing. ] and use the pencil to trace the battery pack.
Take the battery pack off when you're done tracing, and put the hot glue inside the part you traced.
Place the battery pack onto the hot glue and let rest for 5 minutes.
Hot Gluing the String to the Lid
Cut as much string as you see fit for a handle.
Put a little hot glue on one end of the string and place it on the inside of the lid, wait like 15 seconds and then press down on the string so it will stay on the lid, and let it sit for a few minutes. Do that on the other side of the lid as well.
Put the battery pack part back inside the lid.
Drawing a Face
Grab the black marker and draw a face on the tishue paper [ Any face ].
Put the candle or lights into the jar and screw the lid on.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
You have completed a Halloween themed lantern!
