DIY Portable Laptop Stand - by Projchiro

Hi, this is Project Chiro, a Y2 CmPS team from RGS! We are advocating for proper posture. We'll be showing you how to make your very own laptop stand!

We realised that many people hunch their backs to look down at their computer screen and this is bad for your posture. To solve this problem, we can use laptop stands to elevate the laptop screen to be at eye level. You can do this with our easy-to-make and portable laptop stand.

This design was adapted from Yoshiny Yo's design to be easy and suitable for school students to find supplies and make themselves. So alternatively, you can check out Yoshiny Yo's youtube video tutorial How to make Foldable Laptop Stand (light and portable) with Cardboard.

Supplies

There are not many supplies needed, so you will most likely already have them at home!

Supplies needed:

  • Thin cardboard (eg. cornflakes box, compo paper cardboard backing)
  • Paper (Plain paper, coloured paper, wrapping paper)
  • Scissors
  • Glue

You will also need this template which you can print out or draw out.

Cut the Cardboard

Stick the template onto your piece of cardboard. Cut out the pieces accordingly.

Stick the Cardboard to the Paper

Draw out the template onto the inner side of the paper you are going to use. Stick one side of the cardboard pieces into their respective places, then wrap up the other side of the cardboard and secure with glue. You should apply glue on both sides of every piece of the cardboard so that the paper is well secured to the cardboard.

Cut the Slit and Tab

Following the picture above, cut a slit on the bottom of the cardboard and cut a tab on the top of the cardboard.

Fold It Into the Laptop Stand

Following the image above, bend the cardboard at the gaps between the cardboard to form creases that will shape it into a laptop stand. Tuck the tab into the slit so it stays in its position.

Decorate

Decorate the laptop stand to customise and personalise it! Unleash your creativity and make it look truly yours!

Project Completed!

You now have your very own laptop stand. You can easily flatten it to fit it into a bag and fold it to form a functional laptop stand.

With this laptop stand, your laptop screen will be at eye level so you won't have to hunch your back while using your laptop anymore. Hope you will find it useful!
