Before and After portable extension chord12.jpg

Hello Friends, welcome once again,

Actually, It is very difficult to attach everything on the wall socket always, so we need to extend the wire so that multiple appliances can be run together from wall distance.

For my neglligency I short circuited my old extension cord just 2 days ago and i also having problem for charging mobile, laptop, and woofer at the same time. So, I thought to reuse the old parts and make it portable and handy, because without a need, you cant build up anything.

So, in today's instructable I will show you how I converted my old DIY extension board into a portable one without any cost.

So, stay tuned.

Here you can see the design of the product which makes everything simpler to understand so, we will first design our product. Here is the basic design,

I have attached the 3d model of the product, please download it, its a google sketch up file.

So if you have the software then good, if not, then download it from here,

It is basically a mobile box design, which makes it more portable and easy to handle.

If you have a old extension board which don't work now, then take out the parts and use them here, or you can simply buy the items form any electrical store.

1. 3 x Three pin wall socket (female)

2. Extended wire (3 wires inside- neutral, line and ground)

3. 1 x Wall socket (male)

4. M6 X 40 MM Pan Machine Bolt Screw And Nuts

2 x Screw nut and bolt (1/2 inch)

6 x Screw nut and bolt (1 inch)

5. a Fuse

6. a Switch

7. Some wires

8. A pen knife or cutter http://amzn.to/2tIkODz

9. Soldiering iron http://amzn.to/2tJ6pHp

10. Box or Enclosure ( i used a vivo mobile case, it is easy to cut or you can use any encloser)

Make Out the Box

Ready up all the materials you will be needing and start by making the box first.

First of all we are going to mark all the spacing needed to be cut using pen, as for sockets, switch, fuse, wire hole and screw holes. Then take the pen knife/cutter and cut out the markings precisely.

So, our box is ready now for mounting the parts on it.

Installing Parts

Now we have all the spaces cut and ready for mounting the components.

So, at first simply put the sockets in each space one by one and screw them up, after that put the pins in the socket holes which i kept ready by soldering the wires.

Next, take the Switch and the Fuse and install it in the space provided for it and screw them up.

Then insert the mains extended wire through the wire hole in the opposite side.

Lastly, screw up the back covers.

Connections

The connection is pretty simple guys, just see the diagram you will understand it whole......

Soldier the wires to all the pins as shown in picture.

The upper hole pins are the 'ground' connections so, wire them together and connect with the 'ground' wire coming from the mains (green wire).

Next, connect all the right side pins together and soldier with the 'neutral' wire of the mains (black wire).

And finally, take all the left side pins together and connect it with the 'Line' wire of the mains (red wire), then connect it through the fuse and then on the switch.

Connections:

'Ground' wire to ------------ 'Ground' pins.

'Neutral' wire to --------------'Neutral' pins.

'Line' wire to ------------ 'Fuse', to ------------ 'Switch', to ------------ 'Line' pins.

Use black insulated tape and cover all the wires coming out and tape all the wires at one place. Don't make wrong connections or it will get short circuited.

Enclosing

IMG_20170530_144441263.jpg
IMG_20170530_144433939.jpg

So, let's make out the lower box part which will act free and you can open the box at any time by removing the lower part only and you can easily repair it whenever needed.

At the last step you just give the markings in the appropriate positions so that all the components fits in the spaces easily and cut it through all the way nicely,

So, all the parts are now fitted, put the enclosure slowly and cover it up.

Our product is now ready then.

So, cover it up and do some color or spray paint if you want, but I kept it white as it also looks good and I use it for my personal purposes, so use it it'll feel better.

So, pretty simple design guys and portable too.
