DIY Popsicle Stick Shelf
The project I decided to make was a DIY shelf made out of popsicles. I decided to make this project because in my house I have a lot of things I want around my room, and we have never bought shelves, so I decided to make my own. The best part of this project is how simple and easy it is to make these shelves. If you want to hang a lot of things around your house, these shelves can be made in less than 2 hours and almost everything can fit in them, and they are super cheap. Some people prefer to buy super expensive things around their house but this can be an easy fix and trust me it looks great!
Supplies
The supplies needed for this project are very easy to find and very cheap. I used about 100 popsicle sticks, any type of glue for the sticks as long as it works I also used black paint to make the design look nice after I finished but you can use any color or a wood stain depending on how you want it to look.
The very first step is to make the hexagon form with the starting 6 popsicles. You can see in the image above how I put my first layer of popsicles and then began pasting them onto eachother.
For step 2 you have to continue making more layers until the hexagon can be more complete, so something can fit inside and can be reclined. I made 15 layers and I think the recommended amount would be 15 to 17 depending on what you want to put in the shelf.
After you finish making your hexagon big enough you want to make sure that everything is straightened up and that there are no pieces that could fall of because by the number of sticks glued you never know if one was not glued enough or if it didn't stick.
After making sure everything is in the correct order, it is now time to make the hexagon look nice, so it can go as your homemade furniture. I decided to paint my shelf black just to keep things simple, but you can use any color you want or even use the wood stain to make the popsicles look nice. My recommendation would be to use a wood stain first and then any type of paint, but for this project, I didn't have a wood stain available.
For the final step after everything is painted and dried up you want to make sure that everything is well done and that there are no little bits that aren't painted. I gave it another look to make sure that everything looked good because if I am going to hang it up I want to make sure it looks perfect. After doing all these steps, you got a new shelf!
