In this short Instructable I show how I made a phone battery charger. I made this for for my brother in law whose Samsung S5 Neo USB connection was broken, so he could not charge the phone battery in his phone anymore.

I use a simple TP4056 battery charging module. The charger module has a resistor which can be altered to change the charging current, see the datasheet. The standard value is 1.2 kOhm, which corresponds to a charging current of 1A.

For small LiPo batteries you should change this RPROG resistor to a higher value to decrease the charging current and thus charging speed. However, the phone battery has a capacity of 2800 mAh and can handle a charging current of 1A.

The assembly is straightforward.

  • 3D print the frame (see my Thingiverse)
  • Check if the charger and the pogo pins fit in the frame
  • Solder the wires to the charger module and to the pogo pins
  • Insert the pogo pins
  • Insert the TP4056 in the holder
  • Fit in the battery

If it all fits nicely and the charger works, glue the pogo pins and charger to the frame using 502 super glue and shield the connections with hotglue. Do not use hot glue at the TP4056 chip, since it get hot during charging.
