DIY Partials(Teeth)

My story...is a personal one. August 2018, I passed out on my kitchen floor, shattering my two front teeth. The physical damage was mostly cosmetic, but mentally the damage was profound. I would even go as far as to say, this was the single, most devastating blow my self-esteem has ever endured. I quit smiling completely and avoided any situation/interaction that might lead to me having to talk to someone face-to-face. Also, at that time, I was actively searching for employment, however, interviews require talking, therefore, even that was put on hold. Devastated and embarrassed, I was desperate to have my front teeth back. I scoured the Internet, and at last, I didn’t just find temporary veneers, I found new hope. (And for under $10.00!) SOLD! I anxiously waited for my “perfect smile “ to arrive, but instead, my mailman delivered to me... one big disappointment! I felt like the universe was playing a cruel joke on me. These things were so big and bulky that I couldn’t even close my mouth completely around them. Also, they weren’t just uncomfortable, they were painful. Humiliated and devastated, I did the only thing I could think of to do. I cried...until I couldn’t cry anymore. Unwilling to accept defeat, I picked myself up and put my mind to figuring out a way to make what I needed myself. And that’s just what I did. Still harboring a little resentment towards the people who sold me that faulty “perfect smile,” I went to throw them in the trashcan. That’s when I noticed how the inside of those veneers had all the indentations and lines you would expect to see in a mold used to make a set of teeth. I used the veneers, that first disappointed me, as a mold for teeth that fit perfectly.

-instamorph (moldable plastic)
-teeth covers (temporary veneers)
-small pan (half full of water)
-cup (or bowl) of ice water
-spoon
-razor blade

Place the pan of water on medium/high heat. Bring the water to a boil.

Lower a spoonful of Instamorph pellets into the boiling water until they become transparent.

Now pliable (pliable when clear) work the plastic pallets into one solid piece, then press it firmly into the upper teeth covers.

Fit the teeth covers (Instamorph still pressed firmly within) into your mouth. To ensure a good fit, bite your teeth together tightly. At the same time, use your fingers to press the mold against your teeth around the outside of your mouth.

Remove the pair from your mouth and drop them into the cup of ice water until the instamorph is cool. You will know when the instamorph is adequately cooled because it becomes white in color.

Once cold, take your new teeth out of the ice water. Use a razor blade to better shape the teeth and remove any excess plastic.

All that’s left to do is wear your teeth and smile again! If you don’t have any teeth at all, you may need to use denture adhesive to secure your partials(teeth) to your gums. Here are two before and after transformations that I provided the teeth for using this process!
