DIY Paper Flower Bouquet

Flower bouquets can be quite expensive, so why not save some money by using materials you already have? Here's a step-by-step tutorial showing you how to make realistic-looking flowers that are immortal using inexpensive and simple materials.

Supplies

  1. Construction paper (multiple colors)
  2. Glue (Elmer’s liquid glue or glue stick)
  3. Tape (optional)
  4. Scissors
  5. Ribbon

Select your paper color and cut five 10 cm x 10 cm squares.

Fold the square sheet diagonally corner to corner to form a triangle.

Unfold, then fold the square sheet diagonally in the opposite direction.

Unfold the square sheet and fold it in half edge to edge to form a rectangle.

IMG_2503.jpg

Unfold again and fold it in half the opposite way to form another rectangle. You should see a cross and an X where the creases meet.

Next, fold each edge of the square toward the center crease, one at a time, and then unfold. You should now see a smaller square grid pattern.

Use scissors to make a small slit on each side of the square, cutting only up to the first crease (four slits total).

IMG_2508.jpg

Fold the edges inward at each slit, so the paper begins to form overlapping flaps (eight folded edges total).

Fold the paper in half and then fold again so the flaps overlap and begin forming a tulip shape.

Trim a small opening at the bottom of the flower. This is where you’ll insert the stem.

Apply a small amount of glue along the overlapping folded edges to secure the tulip shape. Hold gently until it dries.

Push each bottom triangle inward at the base of the flower where the small opening is.

Cut five green pieces of paper 21 cm x 7 cm.

IMG_2515.jpg

Starting from the bottom-right corner of one sheet, roll the paper tightly inward to form a tube.

IMG_2516.jpg

Leave a small unrolled flap at the end so you can glue it down and secure the tube. Allow it to dry.

IMG_2518.jpg

Trim one end of the rolled stem to make it even.

Insert the tip of the scissors into the trimmed end, cut three small tabs, and fold the tabs outwards.

Insert the stem into the flower from the bottom. The three tabs should rest against the inside of the flower base to hold it in place.

Choose any color of ribbon and tie a bow around the finished bouquet.
