DIY Pallet Gift Crate
Hey everyone in this tutorial I'm going to show you how to make a cute DIY gift crate. This project is very easy to do, and a great alternative to a gift basket. It's perfect to give to a friend or you can forgo the chalkboard part and use it as decor!
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- A plain pallet crate (I bought mine from home depot)
- A small blank of wood (bought from Michaels)
- Chalkboard paint
- White acrylic paint
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
- Jute/Twine
- Paint brushes
- Two coloured papers of your choosing
- Small mixing bowl
- Tissue paper
Sanding the Crate
You'll need to sand your crate if it has a rougher texture so the paint goes on evenly.
Painting the Crate
Pour a little bit of white acrylic paint into a mixing bowl. I added some water because I wanted the original texture of the wood to show though. Mix the paint and water up and apply to the pallet in thin even strokes. Paint everything but the bottom. Let dry. Flip the pallet crate over once everything else is dry and paint the bottom.
Create Mini Chalkboard
Take a small piece of wood and apply chalkboard paint in thin even strokes. Alternatively you skip this step and buy pre-made mini chalkboard plaques from Michaels. I did it this way because I already had the chalkboard paint on hand. Set aside to dry while you tackle other parts of this project.
Wrap the Handles
Apply a line of hot glue on the interior of the pallet crate where the handlebars are. Place twine/jute into it, this is going to serve as your anchor. Wrap the twine/jute around continuously until the handle bar is covered.
Attach the Chalkboard
Once the chalkboard is dry, place a line of hot glue near the top. Cut a long piece of twine/jute, and place the middle into the hot glue. Write out the message you want on the board using chalk. Attach the board to the crate.
Create the Pendant Banner
Take a piece of a coloured piece of paper and draw an 8cm x 3cm piece of the paper. Draw lines 2cm apart and cut. Cut these four pieces into triangle shapes. Repeat the process for the other piece of coloured paper. Apply hot glue to the top of the triangle and apply it to the twine/jute holding up the chalkboard. Make sure to alternate colours.
Fill the Crate
Fill the crate with gifts of your choosing and cover with tissue paper. Voila! You're all finished!!
