DIY Painted Pencils

Hey all! I'm back with another back to school tutorial for you. :) I know this particular DIY has been done a zillion times by a zillion people on YouTube and elsewhere but I put my own spin on it. Let's do this. :)

Here's what you need for this DIY:

-Paint (white, colors of your choice)

-Pencils

-Paint brush

-Masking tape

-Contact paper

-Scissors

-Metallic Sharpie

-Mod Podge

-Toothbrush

-Small containers

-Container of water

-Binder clips

-Dropper

-Pen

Mask off the ferrule and the eraser with tape.

Paint your pencils white. I like to do 3 layers of white to make sure they're adequately covered. Make sure you let the coats of paint dry completely.

Paint your pencils any colors you like, making sure to let them dry completely before decorating.

Now grab your contact paper and cut a strip about an inch wide. Cut it into squares and flip them over. Draw a simple shape. I did circles for this tutorial. Cut them out.

Peel the paper backing off the stencils and put them on your pencil. Paint inside the stencils and let dry.

Peel off the stencils and seal your pencil with Mod Podge. Remove the tape from the end and enjoy your pencil!

Grab your second pencil and your Sharpie (or other paint pen) and do a simple design on the top under the eraser. I did these random abstract designs but you can do any design you like. Let it dry a few minutes and seal it with your Mod Podge.

Now grab your third pencil and something to protect your work area. I used an old T-shirt but you can use anything you have on hand. Mix some paint with a couple drops of water in your little container. (If your paint is on the thinner side, you can skip the water.) Dip the toothbrush into the paint, aim it at your pencil, and flick the bristles. This creates the spatter design. Let it dry and seal with Mod Podge, and remove the tape from the end.

Rock your hot new pencils! ;) You can paint them with clear nail polish after the glue dries if they're a little tacky.
