DIY One-man Sukkah for the Road for $30

This only serves as a rudimentary configuration which met my needs over Chol HaMoed 5779. Please consult a Rav for further guidance.

Notes

Make sure the schach covers more than the gaps it leaves open.

Do not assemble where it is at risk. Generally this means no public parking lots. We happened to have access to the driveway of someone I know. With permission, of course.

When done using the sukkah, simply cut the zip ties and pack up the pieces on the roof of your vehicle.

Store for future use.

Cut the Latticework

Cut the plastic latticework width-wise to make 2 3’ sections. This is surprisingly easy to do with the hand saw.

Dimensions

This is a Very small sukkah.

4' tall
2 x 3' walls
1 x 2' wall

I happened to find my supplies at Home Depot, but many big hardware stores should have these.

1 sheet of plastic latticework (or wood). 4’ x 9’ (our example was an inch shorter)
Package of 8” zip ties
A dozen 6’ cheap slats of wood
2 8’ square dowels

Tools

1 hand saw
1 utility knife

Preparation

Cut the plastic latticework width-wise to make 2 3’ sections. This is surprisingly easy to do with the hand saw.

Cut the dowels in half.

Assembly

Assemble sides using zip ties to attach the dowels at the two wall corners and also at the ends of the two open-ended walls for support.

Use zip ties to attach 3 slats at the highest points of the opposing walls.

Then simply lay the remaining slats across the top from front to back of the sukkah.
