DIY Needle Felted Cute Animal Head

Whether you are a beginner needle felter or a pro, this is a cute and simple project to make. you could give it as a gift or keep it for yourself. you only need a few materials and some creativity.

Foam block (I cut a chunk out of a memory foam block, but there are foam blocks on amazon.)

Felting needle

Wool (I recommend colored wool because it is really cute.)

You could look up some cute animals or create your own, the possibilities are endless! I’m going to be making a bear. If you are a little more advanced you could make a bird or a more detailed animal.

You will need to get a medium sized chunk of wool the color that you want your animal head to be. Then you will poke the wool with the needle until it is condensed into something that looks like this.

Poke the needle into the sides of the wool and fold it over as needed. You will need to do a lot of poking before it is ready.

Keep poking until your ball is small and firm. If it's looking a little lumpy, don't worry, we will fix that in the next step.

Poke sideways into the little holes that your needle makes to smooth them out. If you have bigger lumps then felt them into the ball.

Now it is time to add the ears and eyes and nose (if you want one) you can also add a tail. If you want to take your animal a step farther you can felt a body. I will be adding ears, eyes and a nose.

You will need some black wool. Then you set the wool on the ball/head where you want the eyes. Felt the wool into the head and shape it into the eye shape that you want.

You will need some wool the color of the head, and some wool a few shades lighter for the inside of the ears. Felt the wool into a small lump the shape of the ear you want, and felt it to the head. If you want a different colored inside ear felt the color to the ear then felt the finished ear to the head. Do that for both ears.

Get some black wool and felt it into the face so you get the desired mouth.
