As aeronautics and aerospace are close to my heart and my passion lies in them I decided to built a NASA space shuttle model which looks cool and will be great for students who are interested in aeronautics. The best part is that it's made up of scrap items like waste pizza boxes , newspaper or tissue papers and white glue.

My key motivation behind this project is to show how we can reuse and recycle waste products and create something interesting for students and for other aeronautic enthusiast. you can keep this as collection or as a trophy or it works as a great décor too.

Gathering the Materials

As for the materials required you don't have to worry about it, the materials will be available at your home also if you find any trouble regarding the process or have any doubts feel free to ask in the comments :)

  • Pizza box or any scrap sheet
  • Lots of white glue
  • Tissue paper or waste newspaper
  • Paints and brushes for decoration
  • Sandpaper & Cutter

If you want to use paper mache you can use that also it gives a good life to your project.

Preparing the Fuselage and the Wings

  1. For this step I would recommend using a a waste cloth because the things will be messy in this step, as we will be using a lot of white glue and tissue paper.
  2. For the fuselage you can take reference design from the internet and can draw on the scrap or pizza boxes for the fuselage.
  3. Once you get a better understanding of the space shuttle design draw the base of shuttle on a scrap sheet and cut it.
  4. Now for the 3d look make similar design on the box and glue them together to form the fuselage.
  5. Once done, take a sand paper and make the creases smooth and add some extra glue for the stiffness.
  6. Do the same for the wings and join the wings with the fuselage.
  7. For the final strength add white glue with tissue papers, this will provide a good texture to your Space shuttle.
  8. Once done, give it a day to dry and then you can paint it, I prefer acrylic paints because they give a glossy effect to your model.
  9. If you want you add NASA stickers to your design this will give a real look to your model.

Preparing the Rockets

  1. For this step take a tissue paper and fold it and add some more tissues with white glue so that it give a good amount of strength to your rockets.
  2. Do the same with the External tank, take about 3-4 tissues and make a roll and glue them to form the tank.
  3. Once done, color the rockets.

Final Assembly

Assemble all the parts together with white glue and add little details such as windows, fuselage boosters etc.

Congrats !! you have made it, now you can fly across all the starts and planets !!

Happy making :D
