DIY Metal Saw in Ten Minutes

This old method is so simple and quick that you don't have any excuse to stop buying crapy saws.

Tools

• wood saw
• pencil
• measuring tape
• carpenter square
• drill

Material

• lumber (70 x 4 x 2 cm)
• rod (10 cm)
• string (3m)
• blade
• two screws (M3 x 20 mm)

For a few bucks you can buy a metal saw blade. Then measure its length.

Cut in the 4 x 2 lumbers:

• two 18 cm parts
• one part of the same length as your blade minus 4 cm

On each 18 cm parts, make one slit on one end. The blade will be positioned in these slits so the depth should be equal to the blade height and the width should be more than the blade thickness. I recommend to first draw the slit and then cut it.

If like me you don't have a full workshop with vices, don't panic. Just push the lumber with one hand against a vertical surface (for exemple a chest) and cut the slit with the other hand.

Put your three parts in a "H" position and place the blade over it then draw the holes. Make a 3mm hole through each 18 cm parts.

Assemble the blade with the screws (If the screws are not staying in position, it is not important now). Then attach your string to one end and make four or five back and forth between the ends by keeping the tension in the string. Now each part should stay together. Finally place your rod between the strings and turn it until everything is very tight.
